My god look at the negativity.....3 weeks ago we had all writen off this season and had us down as potential relegation fodder, we have sinc signed some good players and made a decent start to the season, we are 3 points off the top and the squad is growing in numbers!

give me 7 out of every 12 all season log and i for one will NOT be complaining! get behind the lads! 4 of them were on international duty recently, so have played 5 games in 3 weeks with training in between, the performance today reflected that very much.

PUSB!
I like that we are still in business!

Have to agree,

we have signed some quality players and i dont think CC isnt finished yet!

Some of the Calls on CWR tonight show what our fan base is like!

And the 16,300 odd shows how disappointing our surpport actually is!

I don't think it's so much negativity as people who have to make instant judgements, and see everything in rigid black and white terms.
For some folks, if we win 2 we're going to be promoted, if we lose two it's a relegation battle, the truth is probably somewhere in between.
We have several new players, it will take a bit for them all to gel and develop a pattern of play that works. As always, we have to be patient.

I know where you're coming from RogH, but I think this...

...is a myth that is peddled quite a lot without any real justification. I rarely, if ever, see fans make such proclamations.

It is actually perhaps the only area where the skeptecism is useful; most people may revel in the successful phases, but do keep their feet on the ground.

Negativity is king at the club (and most clubs to be fair). Apparently there was a caller to CWR asking for Coleman to be fired, and we have a thread on the forum tonight proposing pretty much the same thing. Insane.

Vern, its the same every season, one defeat and fans are already making rumblings against individual players, manager etc but not at themselves...it's disappointing that only 16,000 odd turned up, thats more money that will have to be made up one way or another.

Think most of the callers on CWR are sitting in there arm chairs at home a slagging Coventry off having listened to it on the radio, I never listen to that phone in as most of the callers talk 8o&&ocks on there

I agree, calling for the manager's head and saying we're now relegation fodder is over the top. But I think what we have to acknowledge is that we've just seen 2 wholely unacceptable performances in the space of a week.

As far as I can see, ignoring how poor we were against Doncaster and almost expecting us to be better today has led to an equally poor performance.

We didn't learn any lessons from the other night. The first touch and anticipation by our players was awful. The passing was aimless and uninventive, and by the end of game individuals simply began hiding rather than digging in and forcing the issue. There was an air of complacency because we were back at home, rather than a determination to get back to winning ways.

I don't think sensationalism after a couple of poor games is ever the way to go, but at the same time ignoring any performance which is as poor as the last two have been is very dangerous too.

The trouble we had last year was there was no pressure to succeed. If we had a bad game, the same old excuses would sound out about us only wanting to improve on the previous useless season. All that attitude will breed is an acceptance of mediocrity.

The accusation of being "fickle" is one that seems to be thrown at anyone who questions the team if they play poorly. The last 2 games have been very alike some of the nonsense we had to put with last season, and the one thing we can't afford to do is to fall back into the trap of ignoring when things go poorly.

And that doesn't mean calling for Coleman's head or berating individuals after 4 games. It just means letting the players know that there is a certain level of performance we all know they're capable of, and giving them the kick up the backside when like today, they fall way below that.

Alan'
A most accurate, summing up of the fluctuating, performances of our football team, no old chestnuts like "need time to gel" etc..Todays performance was notable for illustrating the difference in endevour between two sides in the same league.
this was a game we never looked capable of winning, or even competing to an acceptable level.

I think it was Macca who pointed out earlier in the week, that we shouldn't get carried away by our lofty position, as it was gained, rather more by good fortune than good football, that became more evident today.

Well said, Alan. Constructive criticism is always good. It must be noted that there is a wide difference between that and outright cynicism.

Frustrating is the word I'd use, for everyone ! Having been gifted a Penalty so early in the game, a goal at that stage may just have settled us down instead it proved a costly miss in the end.

Far too many below par performances today, with the exception of Stephen Wright the rest appeared a little lost.

We've got to improve our 'first-touch' and when we're in the oppositions half need to play some sharper more incisive 'one & two touch' football.

Still very early days a long way to go yet but no need whatsoever for some of the 'doom and gloom' merchants on CWR phone-in !
