Postby TankTop »

Can someone out there help Please

I'm searching for comformation that Eddie Cochrane & Gene Vincent played at the Gaumont, It would be 1957 or 1960, I attended the concert, but am having trouble convincing others that they were ever there.

Iv'e trawled through pages and pages of Google and Wikipedia, but cant find any info about their Tour venues, If anyone attended the concert or has any info to substanciate my claim I would be most grateful. Also can anyone remember the Support acts, Alas time has eroded my memory.

Hi...it was 28th January 1960 that Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent played at the Gaumont, Coventry...on 30th January 2010 we are holding a celebratory concert at the SQ Club in Whitefriars Street. This will feature Vince Eager who was on the original bill, "Licorice" Locking who was Cochran's bass player on the tour, Colin Green who played guitar on "PIstol Packin' Mama", No.1 Gene Vincent tribute act Ervin Travis and the Virginians and Peter Jackson who is playing Eddie Cochran in stage show "rockin' on Heavens door". In 1960 the other act on the bill were The Viscounts...hope this helps>>>Dave James

I think it must have been one of the last, if not the last live performances at the Gaumont. I moved-in nearby shortly afterwards and there were no live performances that I remember while I was living there except for the saturday morning children's contests.

For those who don't know the Gaumont was originally bullt as a theatre and the movie screen could be electrically hoisted into the ceiling to reveal a theatrical stage. It also had an orchestra pit which was boarded over and only ever used to house an organ console on an elevating platform.
