I couldn't believe the post 'Coventry's worst ever signings'. Why do some people risk damaging players' confidence etc when they have not yet played a game for the club??!!
I'm sure that Platt has been signed as a squad player that can be used when tactically appropriate. He is not meant to be a star signing that will be playing every game. He gives us something different and as has been pointed out his presence creates chances for others. If we are playing a team that struggles in the air or if we are struggling to hold the ball up front then he will be a great option. Let's give AB some credit - he has worked closely with the guy. If it doesn't work out then it is not as though we have spent huge on him. Remember Kevin Drinkell? He came to us with a great goal scoring record at a cost of (if I remember rightly) £800,000 which was a massive amount at that time - he hardly scored a goal for us! Clive Platt may be another Keith Houchen - may not set the world alight but will make some crucial contributions. If Platt makes 20 appearances and contributes to the team gaining points then he may be a shrewd piece of business. Only time will tell so let's give our new players all the encouragement we can, and let's be a club that players want to come to - not one that will criticise before they've finished tying their boot laces!

Drinkell had a great record before he came to us. I always maintain he was kidnapped on the way to Ryton and replaced with a Sunday league player from the Memorial park. Did score a beauty against Villa live on ITV in 1990-1991 though for which I am eternally grateful
"And McGrath, here come Coventry again, Pickering waiting in the centre......"

No apologies for copying and reposting this from the "worst ever signing thread"
D'ya know players on their own are not BAD signings. They only become bad signings if the manager employs the wrong tactics or they have a loss of confidence or the fans don't give them a chance, etc.
I'm not happy that we are signing aged journeyman players but we have no money; a miniscule fan base; a long, recent history of poor performance; a stadium which is genuinely "too big for us"; and a lack of player assets we can sell to reinvest.
Whatever this season brings is reality. We are what we are. We are not what we were or what some people perceive us still to be.
Accept it. Support it. Or forget it!
