An opportunity too good to miss?

Postby Lewis90 »

Could this transfer window be the time to take a financial risk in the hunt for promotion? With premier league clubs cutting their squads down to 25, decent players will miss the cut and be looking for a new club. Could this be the time to take full advantage. Players such as:

Ishmael Miller
Ebanks-Blake
James Beatie
Kevin Phillips
Keogh (wolves)
Jason Koumas,
Jason Scotland
Not to mention Marlon King & Harewood who would both be on a free.
(Feel free to add any players i have forgotten)

I think minimum you would look to pay for any of these would be 1 million (phillips cheaper due to age) but this would rise to over 2 million for the younger more established players.

I am aware they would demand wages of 15,000 per week but do you think this could be the chance to get established players that you know will get you out of this division? I am sure it's something RR & AB will have considered but it seems an opportunity to good to miss out on. Any thoughts?

I think your living in cloud cuckoo land. We couldn't afford any of the players on this list including the free ones, some of these players are on 30-40k a week. If we had the money the only ones worth having would be Miller, Blake or Beattie preferably the first two because of there age. You can tell we are not in the market for these type of players because the only fee we have really paid was for lukas and this is because of his age and potential ability you are unlikely to lose money on him and thats what Ranson sees as a sound investment. Except for a couple of players on your list if we paid a fee would unlikely get that money back.
The young prem starlet ( joke )which Etuhu is refered to I think would be a big mistake for partly for the same reasons as King and also he is not a prem player. He has played all his football at championship level and lower so it would be just like buying a player off someone in our own league. But because its a prem side some people on this website think wow hes got to be good.
I think there maybe an opportunity for us to get a loan in of quality that is not in a prem teams 25 but I think it will all depend on timing and we would have to wait until the last day hours of the transfer window when some prem teams are desperate to get players off the wage bill. Obviously we wouldn't be paying all that players wages but part. Just a bit of patience needs to be shown. For the record I am more than happy with the recruits we have currently made probably because I have accepted what type of market we are in for players.
