Early Goals

Postby mikeskyblue »

Portsmouth have just sold David James to Bristol City. As far as I can see he is the only keeper they had and will manage to get as they are under a transfer emabrgo therefore i'm hoping this could be a chance to get some early confidence into our strikers and a few early goals.

Even in admin I understand they are allowed to sign players whilst the first team squad remains under 20 players. That said, they will not get large fees or wages past the administrators and therefore it will be a freebie on budget wages so may well struggle to attract anyone of any pedigree. Certainly we can't complain and it is a great time to be pl;aying them.

They have no senior goalkeepers, but if it comes to it they do have at least one youth keeper they can play.

Agreed .....

I have this feeling that Portsmouth are going to take a massive hammering this season all round and get relegated (withouth HMRC intervention)

The house of cards will disintergrate for them, it will be interesting to see all the 'pompey fans reaction' to this.

I am also looking forward to the average attendance at the club which will be way down

I lived down there for ten years during the Portsmouth transition from rubbish championship club ( one season) -to prem and it was amazing how everyone all of a sudden supported Portsmouth in the area who did not know where Fratton Park was.

Oh are they in the poo - a football credit crunch massive victim of their own fault, I will never forgive them for koncking us out of the FA Cup last year :!:

Peter Storie hand in your Merc and get down the job centre and pay back the Tax you owe everyone.

the current league rules employed are mentioned and also the appeals and grants that may or may not be given. It also identifies that year one pros are not included and in the comments beow someone mentions no more than five loan players allowed to play so could be an interesting team.

They are still under the cosh from HMRC for Tax Evasion, they are trying to wriggle free by claiming £13M of image rights fees they paid into offshore accounts of foreign players is not taxable. If they lose a hearing on 3rd Aug ( which they will  ) they stay in administration.

Meanwhile their squad looks a bit sparse, no goalies at all.

They have some good quality players left, but one wonders how many will be 'fit to play', can you see the likes of Kevin Prince-Boateng risking a broken leg before he has been signed by a solvent employer? Below the teams they fielded in their last 2 friendlies.

Pompey: Ashdown; Ward (Martin 75), Mullins, Wilson, Ritchie; Brown, Pack, Hughes (c); Smith, Nugent (Ryan 84), Ciftci (Gregory 65)

Jamie Ashdown is a good keeper...lets not think it's going to be easy.

That said...the 4 in front of him...
